Kekal

news update: Kekal - New Album Update - Metal Storm - Audible Minority

The main concept of "Audible Minority" is all about perseverance and facing the life itself. Musically, it turned out to be a very dark, low-key and introspective album ever made under the name of Kekal. Be forwarned: Don't expect yourself to bang your head while listening to "Audible Minority". There are traces of extreme-metal at some points, but they collide with extreme electronic elements (with the use of multilayered power electronics, Moog synths and theremin) as well as dark, stripped-down emotional jazz and blues. I don't want to call this album 'experimental' or 'progressive', I prefer to call this 'expressional'.

Mercury Prize Shortlist 2008 Predictions & Discussion

The shortlist for the 2008 Mercury Prize will be announced today (July 22nd) at 11.30am.

Note: I am not endorsing all these albums ! This list is just an indication of some albums that are eligible. I have omitted some higher profile artists that I particularly don't rate.

I don't know which albums entered the competition.

Mercury rising: Who will make this year's shortlist? - Features, Music - The Independent

Andy Gill's albums of the year

M.I.A.: 'Kala'

Laura Marling: 'Alas, I Cannot Swim'

Merz: 'Moi Et Mon Camion'

The Mitchell Brothers: 'Dressed For The Occasion'

Radiohead: 'In Rainbows'

Spiritualized: 'Songs In A&E;'

Linda Thompson: 'Versatile Heart'

The Ting Tings: 'We Started Nothing'

Blogger Opinions:

Daniel @ In League With Paton: The Mercury Rises Yet Again

Some albums I wouldn’t object to seeing nominated:

Outhouse – Outhouse (have Loop paid the entry fee?)
Finn Peters – Butterflies
James Blackshaw – Litany of Echoes
Portishead – Third
Radiohead – In Rainbows
Neon Neon – Stainless Style
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss (this and the above are one half British!)
Hot Chip – Made In The Dark
Burial – Untrue
Leila – Blood, Looms and Blooms
The Bug – London Zoo
Elbow – The Seldom Seen Kid
Polar Bear – Polar Bear (not released until 28th July so possibly ineligible)
Django Bates – Spring is Here, Shall We Dance (he’s based in Copenhagen, but still British!)
Wild Beasts – Limbo, Panto
Alexander Tucker – Portal
Gwilym Simcock – Perception
Chris T-T – Capital
Neil Cowley Trio – Loud…Louder…Stop!
Robert Wyatt – Comicopera (I think this was too late for last year….)

Voice of the Seven Woods – Voice of the Seven Woods

Sweeping The Nation: Weekender : via the magic of scheduled posting

the Mercury Music Prize nominees will be issued on Tuesday. We have a regular half-right-or-so record with predicting the twelve names put forward, so here goes: British Sea Power, Burial, Duffy, Edwyn Collins, Elbow, Foals, The Imagined Village, MIA, Mystery Jets, Portishead, Radiohead, Robert Wyatt. Let's see, shall we.

Mercury Prize. - Interstellar Overdrive.

Dipping for Mercury Bearded Magazine: The home of independent music

My analysis of What will Make the 2008 Mercury Prize Shortlist

Burial - Untrue - Did Kode9/ Hyperdub enter this album tough?

Radiohead - In Rainbows - They have never won the Mercury Prize, maybe this time?

Portishead - Third - previous Mercury winners return to the shortlist.

Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid - certainly deserves to make the shortlist, their debut made the Mercury shortlist in 2001, but their last 2 albums were overlooked.

Duffy - Rockferry - too boring for me, but likely to be in, as the Mercury Prize like to nominate debut albums and have a geographic representation beyond just English nominations.

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement - no my thang, but the type of album that is likely to be nominated

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - will this album qualify? well received by the serious rock critics

Rachel Unthank & the Winterset - The Bairns - widely tipped as the folk entrant

Empirical - Empirical - always difficult to select the jazz album, but this album was widely and correctly acclaimed by jazz critics

Does the world need another indie band?

It's the height of the festival season, and across Britain Identikit groups of tight-trousered, floppy-haired boys with guitars are taking to the stage, to thrash out a homogenous jangle. Critics have dubbed their sound 'indie landfill'. Is it the death knell of a once-vibrant underground scene?

Who are the chief culprits for this musical malaise? - step forward: NME and Q magazine, Xfm and Virgin Radio.
