This song had drums, bass, and acoustic guitar tracked in a studio. All vocals, electric guitars, percussion, and cello were tracked with an MBox. Vocals used the RODE NT2000....
This song was another track where basics were cut in a studio, and overdubs done on an MBox. For the lo-fi guitar sound of the intro, we plugged into a tiny, broken-looking guitar amp in the studio, and turned the volume up all the way. It sounded terrible, just as we hoped....

Record Producer Steve Lyon gives a taste of what it is like to work with Glyn Johns's simple drum miking techniques and explains why metal sheets were once brought into the studio.
This track is out of a recent album that we are currently recording. Everything isn't final of course. Also, keep in mind we are American of Cuban descent, so the vocals naturally don't have an English accent. This song and it's recording were intentionally done to sound like if it were pulled out of Sgt. Peppers. The beginning of the song was recorded extended so that it could be blended with the previous track....

I have 2 rooms set up one is the live room and one is the control room. I have installed acoustic sound foam in the control room covering about 50% of the room. It has made a huge difference in the listening environment, and made mixing a lot easier. I have yet to touch the live room but it is coming....

'This track started as a rhythmic experiment. The idea was to write a piece which had a triplet at the beginning and end of each bar. I opened up Sibelius 4 and quickly jotted down what you can hear as the first few bars of the piece. I'm of the opinion that repetition is a very useful tool to make a person listen closely to a small section of music, and is especially effective when that section is a little quirky, so I copy-pasted that over a couple of bars. I than exported a midi file which I imported into Reason 3....'

Both the original Minimoog and the Midi Mini have three oscillators and a reference oscillator producing the standard 440Hz tuning tone. 'An RP visitor tries using Neumann mics for PA. It doesn't work out. In fact it goes horribly, horribly wrong...'
So you bought a vintage Neumann, at last. Who would have thought that a mic from the 50s or 60s might NOT have a tube?
Why do capacitor microphones sizzle? Does the sound make you hungry for a fry-up? What can be done?
'Is it really possible to get a state-of-the-art mic preamp for just $5. Possibly it is. So why would anyone pay $1000 or more?'

After spending about $1700 for a 5 song demo at a local studio, the drummer and I decided to build our own studio. It is a basement studio, but we have a vocal booth and a drum booth. The idea about recording 'Thoughts', my last CD in solo guitar, cames from years of practicing and performing improvisation, both in jazz and contemporary music.
If you havent realized that recording is difficult, then either you are a natural, or you just dont know that your recordings are not good enough yet.
