Liberals ahead in North Shore

According to a poll conducted for the Globe and Mail and CTV, the Liberals are ahead on the North Shore. This is good news for Blair Wilson, the Liberal candidate in West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast, a riding that has been held by the the current incumbent for the last 8 years. On Saturday, June 12, The Globe and Mail featured results from an Ipsos-Reid survey showing the Liberal Party dominating with 38 per cent of decided voters in the North Shore, while the Conservative Party trails behind by a substantial margin of 21 per cent.

An open letter to Jeffery Simpson of The Globe and Mail

I am not going to be wandering around Ontario, Quebec, or anywhere else during the election except in my riding of West Vancouver Sunshine Coast in British Columbia. If I may ask, where are you going to be? Do you live in this riding or are you from somewhere else in Canada? First of all, if you do live in this riding, I am glad you have strong political opinions and can automatically predict that John Reynolds will win this riding with one foot in Hamilton, one foot in Brantford, and one arm tied behind his back. Voters do not want old-fashioned wheeling and dealing. They want a new voice.

To: The Editor and Mr. Jeffrey Simpson. Your Article: "The Indispensable Conservative". For years I have read your articles because of their apparent balance, reasearch and analysis, and, from a distance, respected your opinions. Not so with your article on one John Reynolds. It is one of the most sycophantic, biased articles I have read in a long time, and that is saying alot in this highly charged election campaign. It lacks research and analysis. It has not bothered to ascertain if, what is written so glibly, resonates with constituents and voters in this large, diverse, varied riding of West Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast which also includes the Sea-to-Sky Corridor from Horseshoe Bay, through Squamish, to the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Whistler. Was anyone in this Riding actually contacted to or talked to? Perhaps if you had you would have gathered a rather different impression about Mr. Reynolds. The fact that you did not shows journalistic laziness - and an unwarranted bias - which, in the past, I would never have attributed to you. More...

Blair Wilson says film and T.V. production statistics need bolstering

"The film, television and new media sectors in British Columbia continue to thrive and attract important and lucrative projects to our outstanding locations, skills and facilities," Wilson said. "This industry cannot compete nationally or internationally without the continued support of all three levels of government." "As we look toward our high international profile in 2010, we must work to ensure that our area is well positioned to reap the tremendous economic and cultural benefits of this dynamic and exciting industry."

Questioning the Conservatives' vision of healthcare

On June 3, 2004, Stephen Harper outlined the Conservative vision of health care in Canada. This is a vision that everyone in Canada should question. Harper announced that the federal contribution to health care under a Conservative government would include a $600,000 - $800,000 drug plan and an additional $2 to3 billion annually to the provinces to cover rising health costs. This figure is far below the $9.5 billion increase in federal transfers proposed by Martin.

Young women get out the vote

A member of Blair's campaign team writes: As a 30-year-old professional woman, I am, like many of my peers, a product of the Sexual Revolution. I am a feminist, although I steer clear from too many '-isms' and '-ists.' I am positive that the gender gap is closing. But then I was hit by the following statistic: Women make up half of the Canadian population, but only 63 of the 301 members of the House of Commons are women. The Young Women Vote 2004: The 20,000 Project aims to narrow that gap. Read more.

Rick volunteers his thoughts

I would just like to voice my support for Blair Wilson and the Liberal Party in the upcoming federal election. I am concerned about Mr. Harper and the potential of him becoming Prime Minister of Canada. His views on sexuality, the Canadian military and racist comments made by some Reform party members and members of the Alliance are nothing short of disturbing. I am particularly concerned about Harper's plans to try and put Canada on the 'World Stage' by beefing up the military. Surely any leader must understand that what sets Canada off from other countries, particularly the United States, is that Canadians get things done peacefully. It is beyond belief that a politician would risk the advent of terrorism just to put Canada on the world stage. Read more.
