The situation in Ottawa is evolving rapidly, and no doubt will continue to do so throughout the next week leading up the Dec. 8 confidence vote. On Saturday, the Conservative government reversed its position on 2 proposals in its economic update--the plan to get rid of taxpayer subsidies to political parties, and the plan to take away the right to strike from public servants. But both the Liberals and the NDP said that wasn't good enough without an economic stimulus package, and that they had lost confidence in the government, concerned that Harper would wait until he was in a stronger position and try to destroy them again. Here's a roundup of some of the latest news.
It seems you have to be left or right politically, supporting big socialist government or capitalist corporations. Who supports the middle class businessman/woman? Big government and big corporations aim to destroy the free enterprise small business represents. The rebellious spirit of Sam Adams needs to be resurrected to kick the rumps of the centralist federalists (right & left) out of Washington, DC & greedy capitalists in Wall Street, allowing prosperty to return to the majority of us living in the western hemisphere as a result of our own efforts.

Behind the interminable BC Rail Scandal "trials" lurks an RCMP described by taskforce chair David Brown as a broken organization.
For Harper there is no water, no wine, just a prescription for a purgative to cleanse his rotten misanthropic soul.
NDP Leader Jack Layton has enlisted one of his predecessors to sound out former prime minister Jean Chretien on the possibility of a Liberal-New Democrat coalition government.
A senior NDP official told The Canadian Press that Ed Broadbent spoke to Chretien at least four times after Finance Minister Jim Flaherty delivered an economic update that threatened to bankrupt the opposition parties.
"The idea is to have elder statesmen smoothing things out," the official said.

Just ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, it was announced that Canada and Columbia had signed a trade agreement. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, who was attending the meetings as an observer, took the opportunity to call upon the U.S. Congress to ratify the U.S.-Colombian Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The agreement remains in limbo, with the Democrats still delaying a vote on the accord, citing human rights violations stemming from violence perpetrated against labour activist. Hundreds of trade unionists have been murdered in Colombia since Uribe became president. It is unlikely that a vote will take place before Barack Obama takes office. Along with the deal with Colombia, Canada also needs to ratify trade agreements with Peru and Jordan. Harper has vowed to pursue new trade initiatives with Asia and the Americas, as well as deeper economic integration with the European Union (EU).

With all eyes on the Big O’s Office of the President-elect, very few know that the Port of Los Angeles--the nation’s largest--is now effectively under the control of the Peoples Republic of China.
The Port has purchased with $1.7 million American tax dollars via a “port security grant” awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland security, a mobile X-ray scanning system, mounted on a Mack Truck chassis. The scanning system is owned by Nuctech Company Limited, owned outright by Hu Haifeng, the son of Chinese President Hu Jintao.
