Learn about SigePa

How do you pronounce SigePa?

Ziggy paw, with a bit more emphasis on the last portion.

What does SigePa mean?

SigePa is , or Philippine if you prefer, and loosely translates as more. A person may use this expression if they have received something and would like more.

Who is SigePa intended for?

SigePa may be of interest to those that appreciate pictures of a , or those that wish to learn about what life is like for an American Husband and a Filipina Wife.

In general, visitors can expect entries and pictures to be appealing to young adult through any age beyond that.

Why two separate blogs?

The original blog is a photo blog of my wife, born in the Philippines. She is now an American Citizen, and keeping with the concept of pictures of a Filipina wife, I am limiting the photo gallery blog to pictures taken before she became an American citizen.

This does limit the choices of photographs, I am fortunate in having taken many pictures of my wife.

The blog you are now reading, titled Reflections is planned to be without pictures, after all, there are so many pictures on the main blog already. This choice of not using pictures allows a bit more freedom in creating entries, and allows reflections to be made on situations where no photo is available, or perhaps if a photograph were available, it may be slightly too for public viewing.

Comments are expected from visitors

Guests of SigePa that make comments are greatly appreciated. All comments are screened before becoming public. If you aren't sure if your comments are appropriate, go ahead and post them anyhow. I can edit out things that may be improper. You may like to know that so far all visitors comments have been approved without editing.

SigePa has a fairly liberal opinion of what is acceptable.

Let SigePa thank you.

Though not needed, you may use your email address on the comment form where it is called for without any worry about it being displayed on the blog. Don't be surprised if you receive a personal thank you note from myself for adding a comment to either blog.

The ads on SigePa

Advertisements on SigePa help support the cost of running this website. Sponsors were selected that may appeal to visitors.

Did I miss something?

Did this leave you with an unanswered question? Use the comment thing to add any questions you may have.

You made it this far into this entry? Thanks for taking the time to read it, and thank you for visiting SigePa.

Retire in the Philippines?

Every now and then I start thinking how nice it could be to .

I got in one of those moods again today, and found myself searching the internet for apartments and houses in the Baguio area of the Philippines. Oh, and Dagupan, also.

I had a brief look at Angeles City and Balibago, our old stomping grounds, but I only clicked on one link. Baguio and the surrounding area would be our top choice because that is where the kids and grandkids are.

We called the Philippines again tonight. Or maybe I should say that I dialed the phone and my wife did the talking this time. Using the calling card there are an awful lot of numbers to dial once I do the tool free number, the pin number, and the destination number, which includes a country and city code.

The littlest grandson is always confused about having Grandparents that he has never met and live in the States. All the Grandchildren seem especially nice ... or is that just the Grandfather in me talking?

Too bad the oldest Granddaughter was out of town and we didn't get to talk to her. Her school is doing some big test that she didn't dare miss.

A Rock From the Philippines

If you read the earlier entry about the grandchildren in , you won't be too confused by this entry.

Two of our grandchildren did select a fine rock for me, though it is much larger than expected. The rock has been properly washed and dried, and signed by the grandchildren that have learned how to write. I should have asked for a handprint of the youngest on the rock.

Hoping to find a picture of the river in the where this rock came from, I was disappointed to learn this river has no name.

I will have to wait a while for my , it seems as if it is heavy and will go by ship to save on the cost of mailing it.

Pictures?

Before I get to far into this blog, I should mention my wife's pictures.

In the blog summary I just added a link to an online photo album I am creating using my wife's pictures. You may wish to have a look.

There are quite a few pictures there, and offer a wide variety of glimpses of this Filipina's life.

From Our Grandchildren

My wife just got off the phone with the Grandchildren in . She had a fun time talking with them, and I made a special request for a birthday gift for myself from our Grandchildren.

Knowing we can't be with them, I wanted something special from them for my upcoming birthday, something that would last a long time and that would always remind me of them.

Our Grandaughter answered the telephone, and my wife told her of my special request. This special request was for a rock from anywhere near their house. Appearantly this birthday request from me was received with more than a little bit of and hilarity.

However, once my wife explained the reason and also the fact that I have several other such rocks from important locations (properly marked with the origin), our Grandaughter laughed, handed the phone to her Mom, and, after a brief explanation to her cousin, our Grandson, they both took off running to the river to get a nice stone for Grandpa.

Somehow I feel that may be the subject of discussion with their classmates when school is next in session.

The Philippine Accent

Have you ever spoken to a Filipina and noticed her accent?

Now, I am not talking about ladies born in the states that are of Philippine descent, but , born and raised in the Philippines.

I love that accent, and for all the Filipinas out there, please don't try to be too much like an and don't lose any your Filipina charm and appeal.

It is always a disappointment for me to discover a beauty of obvious Philippine descent, then to hear her speak exactly like an American.

Hope you didn't mind my little editorial in praise of the beautiful Filipina accent.

The Only Filipina in Town

Our first stateside home was in a small town best known as a summertime attraction. We lived within walking distance of a nice beach on the ocean.

I cannot recall seeing any other Filipinas or appearing females of any sort within the area.

My wife seemed to be okay with the lack of other Filipinas, and quickly made friends with our neighbors. She is much more outgoing than I am, and this allowed me to ease into friendship with our neighbors, also.

With her long black hair, beautiful skin tone, island beauty, my wife was bound to be admired by guys whether she was at the beach in a bikini, wearing a short dress when we went out, or dressed in something casual.

My wife appreciates being admired, and I became used to the fact that my pretty Filipina wife will always draw appreciative looks.

One of our neighbors, a , was a frequent visitor to our trailer. It wasn't unusual for him to stop by after work for a few Tom Collins and several hours of conversation. Some times he would supply the liquor, and sometimes we would. With his frequent visits he did see my wife in quite a variety of outfits.

He was a gentleman, easy to be with, and seemed to be unaware of how nice looking my wife was.

Filipinas Are ...

Filipinas are ...

Have you come across websites or a that includes statements that start with those two words? Hopefully you have enough sense to realize that you just can't generalize about any persons based on their sex and ethnic background.

I often wonder just how many Filipinas these writers actually know? Not too many, I would guess.

This blog, titled , does include quite a bit of character, personality, and physical characteristics of one Filipina. Notice I said Filipina, and not all Filipinas?

Please do not infer from any thoughts of my Filipina wife that all are exactly like her.

As with any person, it is her individuality that can give a Filipina her special appeal.

Filipina Myths

Have you heard or read that ladies from the do not age well?

According to the calendar, my and I have both added an equal amount of years to our ages since we first met. How old are we? Well, let's politely answer that by saying we are not quite old enough to retire yet.

Anyhow, we are both nearly the same age, so you would expect us to look about just as old, right?

The concept of this blog entry is to work my way up to the time I went to pick up my wife, and a daughter of her friend was in the yard.

This ten year old ran in to get my wife, and announced to her "Your Daddy is here to pick you up."

Later my wife laughingly told this to me. I did have mixed emotions on this. True, I felt good that my wife looks young enough to be my daughter, but felt somewhat bad that this young girl considered me old enough to be my wife's father.

Our First Apartment

A night together in a motel room every now and then was very nice, but it wasn't ideal. There was always the morning when it was all over and we had to leave the motel.

We were ready soon to move on to something a lot more permanent.

My located an apartment for us near . This place was tiny, but it was furnished and was a nice place for us to stay.

We stayed here a couple months, while my wife kept her eyes and ears open for something a little bit bigger.

Did you notice I used the word wife? Well, we weren't married yet at this time, but while living together in this first apartment we both came to the conclusion that would be right for us.

So please don't mind if I use the word wife a bit before it actually became a reality.

Liberty Motel

Was it called the Liberty Motel or the Liberty Hotel? Maybe somebody familiar with will remember the place and add a comment to clarify this.

I did a fast forward to this blog entry. What I skipped was many dates together, lots of bar hopping, and lots of time together which eventually lead to a night when it was late, and neither of us really wanted to part company and have me head back to .

As things turned out, we spent quite a few nights at the Liberty, and even used that as our vacation destination when returning to the Philippines years later.

Falling in Love

My mind kept replaying my brief meeting with this pretty Filipina. I hadn't asked, but someone as great as her must certainly have a , or perhaps even be married. I should have asked her these questions when we met.

These thoughts kept my mind occupied at work the day after we met, and I am afraid I was not concentrating on my job at all. When my work day was finally over, I rushed back to the barracks and changed out of my uniform to something a little bit better.

Soon I walking down the street she lived on, and with hopes of her being outside her home again, I approached her house. Unfortunately she was not outdoors, and I was too to knock on her door.

Walking past her house, I wandered around for quite a while, then headed back towards her home. Looking at my watch, I realized that it was now about the same time as when I saw her the previous day. I was more than pleased to see her sitting in her front yard.

Inviting me to have a seat on the other chair, we had a much longer conversation this time. I asked and learned that she was neither married nor did she have a boyfriend. Towards the end of my visit she asked if I would be able to come over the next day!

Our visits became a daily thing, and I found it harder and harder to leave and go back to the barracks.

Wait a minute, did you ever actually take her on a date in this time period?

I was more than a little bit shy about asking her out on any type of date at first, what if she turned me down? However, on my day off we made plans to meet in the morning. I asked if she would like to go with me and get something to eat for lunch, and she said yes!

This was our to go anyplace together, and she suggested the Esquire, which was a combination restaurant and bar not too far from Johny's Grocery. The Esquire was a nice safe choice, not too fancy and not too plain. We both had hamburgers, french fries, and Coca Cola. We sat around after we ate and played the juke box for a while, and enjoyed each others company.

How We Met

My , the good looking one in our house, was born in the Philippines. I, the was born in the USA. Here's the part where we are supposed to tell you our ages, right? Let's skip that part.

We've been married since way before the days of the internet and friend finders, so how did this American and Filipina meet, fall in love, and marry?

Meeting each other was simple, yet complicated. The complicated part was for this American guy to somehow be in the Philippines. Uncle Sam took care of that problem. I was in the USAF and assigned to in the Philippines.

The thought of meeting a and getting married was not on my mind when I learned of my assignment to the Philippines. However, being far from home, did set in, and a friend was needed.

One day I was walking down a Philippine street and noticed an extremely beautiful Filipina standing in front of her home. While having an admiring glance at her, she noticed me and actually said "Hi".

I was most surprised to hear such an lady speak to me, and I blurted out some sort of embarrased reply. Taking a chance, I decided to stop and talk for a few minutes, not really expecting her to be interested in me. However, I soon discovered during this first conversation that she was not only beautiful, but also a very nice person.

I am not a great conversationalist, but we did learn a few things about each other, and our short conversation was very enjoyable to me.
