Seaside Ice - Ice Skating By The Beach in Redondo Beach, Southern California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In case you are visiting Redondo Beach this winter there is one additional activity that you can take part in: ice skating by the beach. In the Redondo Beach Marina, an ice skating rink called Seaside Ice was set up for everyone's enjoyment. Enough sponsors were found, enough support from local residents, businesses, city, politicians and anyone else that gives support for projects like these. The rink has been constructed and already put into use. The official start date was November 18th and the opening gala included a performance by a professional ice skating group. The outside temperature in Southern California has been varying between fifty and seventy degrees Fahrenheit these days and the sight of a larger ice covered surface certainly brings interest.

Sunday Evening Meat Fest at Manna Korean BBQ Restaurant on Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles, CA

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: A relative of ours recommended Manna Korean BBQ Restaurant as a worthwhile casual dining destination several weeks ago. Having that in mind, we selected it as a get together location with our friends who live in this part of Los Angeles. Our initial concern with it perhaps not being open on Sundays was dispelled when we read on their web site the note: "Open 365 days of the year". Nice. We did not make reservations ahead of time for some reason. Meeting time of four in the afternoon was set and we were all unusually prompt. Manna has a large parking lot next to the restaurant but you are required to use valet services. They were charging a dollar (if I remember well) but we usually want nothing to do with valets when there is plenty of available parking in the neighborhood. Such was the case this time when we found a street spot right next to the entrance.

Hello from Sicily - An Excursion into Antiquity: Siracusa

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Finally, my first day of beautiful weather in Sicily, a perfect day for an out-of-town excursion. I started my day with a nourishing breakfast on the terrace of Hotel Villa Nettuno and I have to say of all the places I have travelled to, the view from this terrace and the garden itself must be one of the most beautiful vistas I have ever enjoyed anywhere. Maria Sciglio, who is in her 80s, takes such amazing care of this garden which is a virtual sub-tropical paradise. I was savouring every minute of my morning meal which included a fresh croissant, coffee, tea or hot chocolate, and a fresh Italian bun with jams and honey.

I was certainly ready to take on the day and began my 7-minute stroll to the Babilonia Language School. The Piazza Corvaja was already starting to fill up with people and the beauty of Taormina in the gorgeous blue sunshine was dazzling my eyes. Bright and early at eight am thirteen people were waiting in front of the school, and our activities coordinator Peppe walked just a few steps east to a local car rental to pick up two rented vehicles: a minibus and a small car. Our little Fiat Panda was rather cozy for five people, but that's definitely something you need to get used to. Most things in Europe, including cars, a just a bit smaller than in North America.

Weekday Lunch at O-Nami Japanese Buffet Restaurant in Torrance, California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: O-nami Japanese Restaurant is a buffet style eatery located in old town Torrance. Its building used to house a similar dining establishment called Todai which we visited every once in a while. We had never been to O-Nami and on a recent weekday decided to give it a try. We called in advance and learned that it is open for lunch until two in the afternoon and that the buffet price is $14.95. Upon arrival at the restaurant's parking lot we were greeted by the valet service even though there were plenty of available parking spots everywhere. We declined politely and parked our car ourselves a few feet away. Saved ourselves a dollar. Yeah!

Traveling Light to Oaxaca

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: First-time travelers to Oaxaca, as well as return visitors and snowbirds, can all help to improve the financial lot of many struggling residents, aside from simply visiting the city and spending.

ItÂ’s a fact that tourism has indeed returned to the central valleys of the state of Oaxaca. But as a result of the US economic crisis in 2008, so have many Oaxacans: Oaxacan immigrants, documented and otherwise, had previously been eking out a modest existence north of the border, often wiring money back to their motherland on a regular basis to help out parents, children and extended family members in need. With fewer available jobs, the people flow has now been reversed. Oaxacans are coming back to their native soil. The economic implications are twofold:

Lunch at the Little Gourmet on Main Street in El Segundo, CA

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We chose the Little Gourmet for a casual lunch last week after seeing good reviews on Yelp. We often eat our midday meal in El Segundo and for some reason have not noticed it during our rounds. With exact address in hand we headed out on a sunny California weekday to test it out. We noted the sign for the restaurant just North of El Segundo Boulevard. Parking is available for free for several hours on Main Street and also on the surrounding streets.

Guadua, Puerto Escondido: Oaxaca restaurant review

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Guadua ranks arguably as the best restaurant and bar in Puerto Escondido in terms of both ambiance, and quality and creativity of fare. In fact for this reviewer it's a full notch above the rest.

The restaurant's designer has done an impeccable job of creating an atmosphere fitting a bistro on the beach, yet with class and subtlety, and a conspicuous lack of that all-too-prevalent and overpowering nautical paraphernalia. No walking over an arched mini-bridge onto these sturdy hardwood planked floor boards. With its full open concept, there's nary a wall to hang a dolphin, a net, or an oversized photo of the owner's big catch. While structurally a palapa, the configuration is more than simply functional cross beams and uprights supporting palm leaf; posts are erected at aesthetically pleasing and unusual angles, worthy of note in Architectural Digest. Lighting, while somewhat dim for late night dining, is provided by bulbs dangling inside smartly strung over-sized patterned burlap balls.

Lunch at Famous Dave's Pit BBQ on Pine Avenue in Rainbow Harbor, Long Beach

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Famous Dave's Pit BBQ is one of the restaurants that lines the Long Beach waterfront along Shoreline drive, also known as Rainbow Harbor. This part of Long Beach has been built up significantly over the past several years. It is now actually pleasant to spend some time in this area. Restaurant mega chains have set up their operations here to aid the hungry and thirsty visitors. I strolled down the boardwalk looking for a place I had not been to previously and that had at least some uniqueness to it. Famous Dave's Pit BBQ fit the bill. When I passed by it, the sweet aroma of barbecue in the air made my mouth water and there was really nothing I could do but stop at this restaurant and have lunch.
