Waterfalls rush over NYC

New York Limousine

The East River comes alive this summer with The New York City Waterfalls exhibition. Presented by the Public Art Fund, this unique project, designed by artist Olafur Eliasson, features four man-made waterfalls located at various points along the East River: one on the Brooklyn anchorage of the Brooklyn Bridge; one on the Brooklyn Piers, between Piers 4 and 5 near the Brooklyn Heights Promenade; one in Lower Manhattan at Pier 35 north of the Manhattan Bridge; and one on the north shore of Governors Island.

Standing at 90 to 120 feet, the Waterfalls are not only an impressive from an artistic viewpoint, but from an engineering one as well. Each structure is designed to circulate water from the river without disturbing the wildlife that resides within the water, thus creating a piece that is both beautiful and environmentally sound.

The Waterfalls operate daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, except Tuesdays and Thursdays, when they will run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visitors looking for a one-of-a-kind perspective should view the exhibit after sunset when the Waterfalls are lit. The exhibition runs through Oct. 13.

Viewing the Waterfalls is easy with New York Limo. Just contact us and we will provide fast and convenient service to any and all of the exhibition sites.

5 Day Celebration for Brooklyn Bridge's 125th Birthday

The Brooklyn Bridge is 125 years old this month and New York City is getting ready to celebrate.

The bridge connects Brooklyn and Manhattan across the East River, and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the country.

Completed in 1883, the bridge opened with a "People's Day" celebration; for a penny toll the general public was permitted to traverse its span. (A few days later, on Memorial Day, 12 pedestrians were trampled to death when the crowd believed the bridge was collapsing and panicked.)

This fest will kick off with a public birthday party on Thursday, May 22 at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn, featuring live music by the Brooklyn Philharmonic. The evening will feature a Grucci Fireworks presentation and an unprecedented light installation featuring a colorful array spanning the length of the Brooklyn Bridge, illuminating the New York City skyline each evening from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm from May 22 through Memorial Day.

Getting to these events is no problem, at all. Just contact NYC Limousine and we will make certain you get to where you want to go to celebrate the Brooklyn Bridge's 125th Birthday in style.

Culture spot: New Museum of Contemporary Art

NYC Limousine

It's the kind of building that renews your faith in New York as a place where culture is lived, not just bought and sold.

The first art museum ever built from scratch in downtown Manhattan, its design is dazzling and accessible, handsome and modest, brassily assertive and yet like a cagey New Yorker respectful of the quirks of its streetwise neighbors.

No need to worry about how to get there Just call for a car from NYC Limousine. We will drop you off at the front door and be there when you are ready to leave!

Things to do in New York

At the Museum of the City of New York on 1220 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan's Upper East Side is a presentation of "Timescape." This is a 25-minute multimedia program narrated by Stanley Tucci, that traces the growth of New York though animated maps, archival photos and painting from the museum's collections.

No need to worry about how to get there. Just call for a LIMO from NYC Limousine. We will drop you off at the front door and be there when you are ready to leave!

As spring rolls into town and the warm weather returns, it's a great time to get outside and celebrate the Easter and Passover holidays. And for Passover, there are a number of Seders to attend.

April 13: Big Onion Tours' annual Jewish Lower East Side tour takes you through more than 150 years of Jewish history. Prices vary; tour leaves at 11am from the southeast corner of Delancey and Essex Streets. (212-439-1090)

NYC's St. Patrick's Day 2008

Everyone's Irish for at least one day of the year. For a true NYC St. Patrick's Day experience, watch the parade go up Fifth Avenue-it's a longtime tradition. For some history, join in Big Onion Walking Tours' Irish New York tour and learn about the "Little Ireland" that once existed downtown. And don't forget to visit a few of the City's most famous pubs for some good ol' Irish beer and fare.

March 15-16: Radio City Music Hall will once again be hosting Celtic Woman after last year's sold-out engagement. Five soloists-four vocalists and one violinist-perform with composer and musical director David Downes for two nights only. March 15, 8pm; March 16, 7pm. (Sixth Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets, 212-307-7171)

March 16: The Irish Arts Center is once again hosting its Annual St. Patrick's Open Day 2008, a free afternoon of authentic Irish music, dancing, performances and activities. Workshops will also be available. Noon-5pm. (553 W. 51st Street, 212-757-3318)

March 17: The annual New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade has become the world's largest parade celebrating the holiday. It marches up Fifth Avenue, starting at 44th Street at 11am, and usually lures more than 100,000 participants! Be sure also to check what other parades are going on in the boroughs-all five have their own celebrations.

President's Day means Plenty of Good Eats

The third Monday in February is "President's Day" and is a federal holiday to commemorate the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. This means that many businesses may be closed, but typically restaurants and other tourist attractions remain open. NYCLimo will take you to any of your favaorite restaurants. Let us worry about the traffic while you sit back and enjoy the ride.

Winter is here, but the fun doesn't stop in the Big Apple. February is the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Rat and New York City has a varitey and celebrations and parades to commemorate the event. February 07, 2008 is the official Chinese New Year. There will be a firecracker detonation, visits from local politicians and community leaders and it is intended to ward off evil spirits.

It features elaborate floats, marching bands, lion and dragon dances, Asian musicians, and acrobats. The parade begins at 1 p.m. and is expected to conclude about 3 p.m. at which time an outdoor cultural festival will take palce on Bayard Street.

Getting to these events is no problem, at all. Just contact NYC Limo and we will make certain you get to where you want to go to celebrate the Chinese New Year in style.

Talkin' Turkey in the Big Apple

Everywhere we go, we hear how it just isn't Christmas unless it's Christmas in New York. The big tree at Rockefeller Center, the fabulous kick-line of Rockettes in skimpy Santa suits celebrating 75 years, the kids clamoring to see Santa at FAO Schwartz...if the snow falls just right, the City turns into a magical winter wonderland. Of course, we're always available to offer you a limo ride to get your holiday shopping done.

It is wonderful, and we do hope to see you here this Christmas. However, don't forget Thanksgiving offers a fun time in the City as well. Sure, we have the huge Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, but that's not the only thing that defines the Thanksgiving season in New York City.

Not in the mood to spend hours over a hot stove this Thanksgiving? Let New York City's best chefs prepare Thanksgiving dinner for you and your clan. New York City restaurants offer a range of Thanksgiving dinner options. You can have a traditional turkey feast or start your own tradition with more exotic options including vegetarian, kosher, soul food, and Japanese.

Spend a historic Thanksgiving at Fraunces Tavern. Established in 1762, Fraunces Tavern was a favorite of founding father George Washington. For Thanksgiving, Fraunces is serving a traditional dinner including your choice of turkey, swordfish, or vegetarian pumpkin ravioli for the main course.

Haunted New York - Enjoy a Spooktacular Tour of the City

New York City is known for many things - the bright lights of Broadway, fine cuisine and corner vendors, glamour and excitement. Yet for those interested in the paranormal and unexplained, the Big Apple may very well be renamed the Big Haunt.

Once you've seen the popular sights the city has to offer, why not take a trip down the eerie side of the city many call home...years after they have departed? If you're in the mood for a frightfully fun stay in New York, and can't wait until the Halloween, the city is not without yearlong otherworldly charm.

Certain times of the year, Merchant's House Museum presents ghost tours and lectures on various topics, including the art of dying. If you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of any of the curious spirits known to wander the property.

It's said, too, that spirits haunt the Hotel Chelsea, and that the ghost of Dylan Thomas (who died after drinking too many spirits at the White Horse Tavern) haunts the pub to this day. Of course, he was taken to the Chelsea after collapsing outside the pub, so maybe he's pulling double duty?

Did you hear the one, too, about the Ziegfield Follies showgirl who haunts the New Amsterdam theater? Many have claimed to see Olive Thomas strutting the stage in her beaded costume.

The ghost of Roxy Rothafel is said to haunt the theatre he built, Radio City Music Hall, and various members of the Algonquin Hotel's Vicious Circle are rumored to have continued their stay at their favorite table and elsewhere in the hotel.

If you're interested in more contemporary ghosts, it's said the ghost of John Lennon has been seen outside the Dakota, where he was fatally shot.

When you do decide to come to New York, the ghosts are waiting. Hop in a limo and you just might see a few wandering around Manhattan.

NYC Restaurant Week Summer 2007 Extends through Labor Day!

Fine dining at a fine price

If ever there was a time to get a limo in New York, it's this week. Summer Restaurant Week starts up today and runs through Friday, with more than 200 Manhattan restaurants are offering three-course, prix-fixe lunches for $24.07, representing New York as a 24/7 city that never sleeps. Dinners go for $35. Drinks, tax and tips are not included.

If you like to eat, but have balked at the prices of some of your wish list eateries, this is time to go. Check out NYC Visit for a list of participating restaurants, then let us take you for a ride.

Broomstick broken? Take a limo to see Harry

We'll admit that Quidditch isn't exactly our game, we'll take a subway series any day, but even we can't deny the excitement coming our way on the 20th. Who would have thought a fictional book character could create such global anticipation, and if anything we're glad people are actually excited about reading for a change rather than something else. So we suppose it's only fitting on Friday the 13th that we should offer our suggestions on where to go to get wild about Harry. So if you're out of floo powder, or don't even know what that is (and of course you know, otherwise you wouldn't queue up at a bookstore at midnight, would you?), hop in a limo and we'll help get you to the last book before the witching hour is over.

McNally Robinson on Prince Street will host a Harry Potter party for grownups on the big night. Come by around 10PM for live music and fortune telling before the book goes on sale.

Barnes and Noble at Union Square also has a party planned, with a costume contest and appearance by actor Jim Dale, who narrates the audio versions of the series.

Of course, you can see the latest movie adaptation now at the AMC Loews Village 7. Make sure you get a call into us before some Muggle does and we'll take you there.

Feed Your Inner Child

We had a friend come over for Book Expo America a few weeks ago. She only had limited time to see the actual city when she wasn't at Javits Center networking and rubbing elbows with celebrity authors. So we made sure she saw the finer (and other memorable) points of Manhattan. We made sure she got her pics of the Imagine mosaic in Central Park, and the chaotic neon and rush of Times Square, plus a short stay in Bryant Park to check her e-mail (one of the few open wifi places in the city). Fine and good for her, but she was really interested in the food. Our kind of gal.

Luckily, too, she has an iron will and an iron stomach. Our friend isn't a fancy teetotaler; they should put her face on the Hungry Man dinners. Anyway, for her first stop for lunch she wanted New York deli, so we zipped her over to Katz's for some hand-cut pastrami, an egg cream, and pickles as thick as a baby's arm. You might know Katz's from the movie When Harry Met Sally (I'll have what she's having...now you remember), but if our friend got any of that she's not telling.

During a brief trek through Chinatown, we stopped at a curious, small place called Fried Dumpling. Here you can get five bulging, steamed pork dumplings for a buck! It fills you up, too. If you work nearby, this is a great cheap lunch.

Now, as most visitors are, our friend was jonesing for an authentic New York hot dog. We advised her against a street cart and steered her instead toward the nearest Gray's Papaya. If
that weren't enough to satisfy her junk craving, it was off for dessert at Crumbs Bake Shop, featuring 30 varieties of the most incredible cupcakes you'll ever eat. We got a box to go, but sadly they didn't make it to dinner, where we finally convinced our friend to enjoy a nice sitdown meal at Becco, an Italian eatery known for its regular, bottomless trio plates. Three pasta specials of the day, as much as you want. Good thing we had the big limo to roll her back to the hotel.

If you're a foodie in the city with time (and the appetite) to spare, why not give us a call and rent a limo? Make sure you pick up something for us, too.

Remember...

Memorial Day comes this Monday, May 28th, and is a time to reflect on those who have given their lives to our country, liberty, and safety. Here, this holiday tends to be more poignant, given the events that continue to touch our lives. Next week you may see more visitors to the Ground Zero site (there are walking tours available on Monday), yet Memorial Day events are scheduled throughout the boroughs. Riverside Park, for one, will host a commemoration service at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, while a similar ceremony and parade is planned at John Paul Jones Park.

We at NYC Limousine are proud to call this country home, and send our appreciation to all who have served our country in times of war and peace.

Your mother called, she needs a ride this Sunday.

After all the hard work she's done raising you, taking care of your family, and putting up with your shenanigans, don't you think it's time you repaid her generosity? Sure, cards are nice, and dinner at a fancy restaurant is even better. But how are you going to get there? Surely you don't intend to present Mom with a bus token on her day!

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to escort her through the City in style, in a stretch limousine? Of course it would, nothing but the best for Mom on Mother's Day, or any day of the year. This coming Sunday, however, we're giving Mom a half-dozen roses with four hours rental of any our stretch limos. Plenty of time for Mom to enjoy a spa package at one of New York's finer salons, a leisurely brunch, or a shopping spree at Bergdorf's.

So be sure to call us today to reserve a car for the weekend. Mother's Day gets busy around here, and you don't want to be left holding a bunch of bus tokens.

Holly-where?

Sure, big studio film productions are okay if you like off-color humor and loud explosions, but here in the City we like a bit of independence with our popcorn and Raisinets. That's why we're excited about the lineup at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, which starts tomorrow and runs through May 6. Over 250 films by indie and foreign producers are featured - many films people in the rest of the country probably won't get to see on the big screen. So if you love movies, you definitely need to take a limo into lower Manhattan and get yourself a good seat.

Now, if you prefer the explosions and action, sticky movie theater floors and sticky webs, you'll be happy to know that next Monday commences Spider-Man Week in New York. Not only will Spider-Man 3 debut at Tribeca, but all week long related events will be held all over. We'll take you to the Central Park Zoo to see the Spidey's crawling cousins in person, then over to Rockefeller Center for the big Today Show party. But don't worry about sharing a limo with any webbed creatures, all our chauffeured cars are clean, and while we may not be able to scale buildings to avoid traffic, we'll get you to where you need to be.

We only have one planet...

One on which we can live, anyway, that we know of. But if you come to the city next week, you will be able to celebrate the one we have and enjoy. Earth Day is coming soon, and while it doesn't get the same kind of press Christmas does, be assured we go all the way when celebrating it here.

Rather than have everybody commute individually to Grand Central Terminal to engage in activities designed to conserve energy and reduce pollution, we at NYC Limousine encourage the practice of carpooling. In fact, with many of our limousines you can take anywhere from six to fourteen to the big EarthFair where you can sample organic treats and learn more about recycling goods and improving your quality of life the natural way. If you think it isn't easy being green, let us take you to the fair so you can see for yourself.

We brake for bunnies

Spring in New York City is a special time, a signal of renewal and rebirth, and the hope of another great and prosperous year. Already the Yankees are getting a good start with a win against Tampa...only a hundred-plus left to go until we take home another series.

In the meantime, we're getting ready for Easter. If you haven't been to the city for this holiday, you definitely need to hire a limo and head down to Fifth Avenue for a good spot to view the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival. You'll never see a more colorful display of headwear anywhere. On April 8th from 10AM-4PM the street is awash in color and plumage. We can drop you off by St. Patrick's and pick you up for a nice four-course Easter dinner at Lupa.

Unfortunately, Central Park won't be hosting its annual Easter Eggstravaganza this year. But if you're into the whole egg hunt thing, there are a number of Easter activities going on at various city parks. Our limos have plenty of room to hold whatever treasures you find at any of them, just make sure to save a chocolate bunny for us.

Irish Eyes are Smiling, as NYC Limo does the Driving

There's no better place than New York City to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We have the best corned beef and cabbage this side of County Cork, and perhaps the most famous parade commemorating the day, 246 years strong with no signs of slowing. Traffic slows for this event!

You may have seen it in movies and on certain TV shows, but when you come to New York you can definitely feel the influence of the Irish. This is a passionate, proud culture that helped shaped the city over 300 years, and even if you don't make it for the holiday you can visit any time of year and enjoy the Irish pubs and points of interest. Hop in a luxury limousine and we'll help plan your itinerary.

As always, New York Limousine is here to take you to and from the parade so you don't have to worry about parking while the clans march past. If, too, you've done a bit too much celebrating, all you have to do is call (718)-326-8866 and we'll pick you up and take you home.

Love is in air...

There's something about Valentine's Day in the City. We don't know if the anticipation of a night on the town heightens a couple's romantic tendencies, or if the brights lights of Broadway entice lovers to snuggle close in front row seats, but NYC Limousine wants you to keep the good feelings all year long.

For Valentine's day, though, we're offering a special: you can enjoy a FREE bottle of champagne with any limousine rental. Two-hour minimum rental, you drink, we drive. We'll take you anywhere you want to go. If you want to treat yourself and your honey to a day at the spa, we'll wait while you exfoliate. If you're looking for a romantic, candlelight dinner, you have your choice of the finest restaurants in the world, all in one place. Even if you want to take your date on a cozy horse-drawn carriage ride around the park, we'll take you there and back.

Limos are getting snatched up fast for V-day, so don't wait until the last minute. Reserve your limo now, else you'll be reserving a space on the couch until you can make up for it on her birthday.

The Music of the Season

Neither rain nor sleet nor Christmas snow will prevent NYC Limousine from taking you anywhere you want to go this holiday season. For a romantic limo ride through the bedecked streets of the City, we are the people to call. If you're in the mood for caroling, or holiday music in general, there's no limit to the number of places we can take you this year. Looking around the City's busy calendar, there's plenty going on this month to soothe the savage, post-shopping soul.
