Music events in Britain, including gigs, concerts, opera, and musicals
Maidenhead Choral Society will be singing Verdi´s Stabat Mater, Vivaldi´s Credo and parts of Rossini´s Petite Messe Solonnelle with soloists and our professional conductor George Badacsonyi and accompanist Gillian Salmon together with an organist. Everyone who comes to our concerts enjoys them so why not come along? The concert starts at 8pm and will last about 2 hours with an interval. The venue is St Lukes Church, Norfolk Road, Maidenhead where there is on-street parking. Tickets at £10 (£8 concessions) are available from Jenny Robinson on 01628 822886 or at the door.
Verdi´s much loved Messa da Requiem is unique among requiems, owing its flamboyant style to the lyric operas that Verdi composed with such passion. Overflowing with memorable melodies and penetrating emotion, the Requiem is acknowledged as one of the enduring nineteenth-century choral masterpieces.
The Sillars Light Orchestra (formed in 1926) currently consists of 35 amateur musicians playing 20th century light classical music. The Orchestra appears as part of the Dereham Festival 2008, an unmissable event taking place at East Dereham, Norfolk between the 9th and 17th May 2008. The appearance of the Sillars forms the closing evening of the Festival, commencing 8.00pm at St Nicholas Church. Union Chapel project was set up by the church in 1991 to administrate the building and make it's facilities available to a diverse group of people; there is an emphasis on providing a programme and facilities to people from marginalised groups, such as the homeless.
