Rfid news
With the world moving towards the mass implementation of RFID, we have no doubt that 'Instant EPC Hotspot' RFID Visualization Software will prove to be very useful to a lot of people. The software uses commercial RFID tags and readers to measure RFID performance at the item, case and pallet level under real-world conditions. Results from these measurements are displayed using interactive 3D models color-coded to show RF properties.
SkyeTek, Inc., the leading provider of embedded RFID reader technology and developer of ReaderWare(TM), today announced that Boundless Technologies is incorporating SkyeTek's M1 reader into the Boundless ADDS 5700 Dual Video Web Terminal. By adding RFID as a feature, Boundless expands the addressable market of the ADDS 5700 to new kiosk applications such as point-of-sale credit card transactions for retail, user identification and authentication for financial services, and inventory tracking and management in pharmaceuticals.
"We selected SkyeTek because they were uniquely able to meet our customers' requirements for size, functionality, security, and cost while providing a robust software development platform in ReaderWare that accelerates time-to-market," said Jack Ryan, COO of Boundless Technologies. "RFID-enabled ADDS 5700's allow Boundless to increase its value proposition to customers and extend its reputation as an innovative and responsive global supplier of data entry and video display technologies."
Everyone working on RFID technology has tacitly assumed that the mere act of scanning an RFID tag cannot modify back-end software and certainly not in a malicious way. Unfortunately, they are wrong," the scientists said in a paper.
RFID technology has arrived in China in an unprecedented manner, with over 100 million tags shipped in 2005, and more than 2.9 billion tags forecast to be shipped by 2009, reports In-Stat (http://www.in-stat.com). From 2005 through 2009, a major RFID application will be for human ID through China’s second-generation Resident ID Card program, the high-tech market research firm says.
Microsoft Corp. today announced the worldwide availability of Windows® Embedded for Point of Service version 1.1. Since it was launched in May 2005, Windows Embedded for Point of Service has gained considerable momentum with device-makers, application vendors and retailers across the globe, helping address the industry’s short-term challenges and maximize the use of legacy peripherals, while at the same time helping retailers plan for long-term investments such as radio frequency identification (RFID) readers, biometric scanners and other cutting-edge technologies.
nnovision Research and Technology has concluded a new licensing deal for its flagship smart ticketing chip, Jewel. The new deal with Italian company, Smart Res, an independent manufacturer of RFID inlays, will enable Innovision R and T to strengthen its presence in the European market. Traditionally, Innovision R and T has had strong links across Europe, but is now focusing a proportion of its marketing efforts on developing business opportunities in continental Europe.
AXCESS International Inc. and STEMCO LP are pleased to announce a recently-signed business agreement between their companies to work together in the development of RFID based solutions for heavy-duty commercial vehicle fleets.
These solutions will utilize semi-active tag technology and hardware from AXCESS that will be seamlessly integrated with STEMCO's BAT RF active RFID mileage and tire pressure data collection sensors. Future products utilizing these combined capabilities are in development and planned for release in 2007.
TrueDemand Software, a leader in next generation supply chain solutions, today announces the release of its suite of execution-based replenishment and forecasting applications. Available immediately, the TrueDemand Forecasting and Replenishment Suite works in either RFID or non-RFID environments to deliver reductions in inventory out-of-stocks and to helps reduce operations and labor costs for retailers and consumer goods manufacturers. Additionally, the suite enables retailers to improve their store execution and to streamline merchandising while improving collaboration with suppliers. TrueDemand's replenishment and forecasting applications are the first of their kind to have been built from the ground up to take advantage of the new RFID data and other event data -- including POS data -- in a supply chain application. As a result, retailers and consumer goods companies alike will realize significant benefits by being able to implement a true execution-based replenishment system.
METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) is supporting the following eight RFID pilot projects for FY 2005. I just realized that lots of news on Japanese RFID trials are related to these projects.
METI was supporting seven projects in 2004 (see the entry "METI Selects 7 Industries"). So, it's slightly different in 2005.
