NASCAR news. Official driver and team news releases covering the Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck Series.
Due to the incredible demand for tickets since going on sale on Monday, November 13th, Stock-Car Montréal announced today that an additional grandstand has been added for the NASCAR Busch Series race weekend to be held August 3-4, 2007 at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in Montreal. The new "Petty" stand will be located in front of the pit lane next to the Waltrip Grandstand. ....
"We're just racing. There are no mind games. It's no different than anything we've done in the past. I don't read any of the propaganda stuff that's out there. You guys are going to go back and you're going to write this stuff and it's going to be on TV and I'm not going to read any of it or listen to any of it. I never do. So whatever is said ....
Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 DeWalt Ford Fusion, is second in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings and trails leader Jimmie Johnson by 63 points going into Sundays Ford 400. Kenseth was part of a championship press conference this afternoon in which he discussed his chances. ....
"We had a flawless run," said Gordon upon his arrival in Miami, Fla., at 9 a.m. Friday for this weekend's season-ending NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race. "We had absolutely no issues and I'm really happy that Andy was able to get his first win with us, and I'm pumped that we got a win on Toyo Tires." ....
Kasey Kahne ran a lap of (30.293) seconds to capture the final pole of the season at Homestead-
Miami Speedway. This marks the sixth pole of the season for Kahne and ties Kurt Busch for
poles in the series. "I got into turn one and felt like I missed it a little bit and gave up some time," Kahne commented. "I think I made it up in three and four. A lot of cars were close on their times. I think everyone handled pretty much the same. I'd say it's going to be that way pretty much all weekend long. Scott Riggs qualified second followed by Kyle Busch, Elliott Sadler, and Jeff Burton. ....
"This race was not originally on my schedule of races to run this season, but since we missed Phoenix we wanted to run another one for 3M. I like racing Homestead and got a top-10 finish in the truck there last year. We're at a bit of a disadvantage since we did not get to test a few weeks ago because we hadn't planned on ....
"Just like PIR last week, I've completed a lot of laps at Homestead in the past, so I am familiar with the track. At this point, I'm uncertain if it is better to come to these tracks with no experience vs. experience in another form of racing. The biggest challenge so far is understanding what these Busch cars need from a setup ....
Labonte will be making his 474th career start this weekend at Homestead. Labonte has seven starts at Homestead and has finished in the top 10 four times. Three of those finishes have been fifth or better including a win in 2003. Labonte's average finish is 12.9 at the track and has started sixth or better four times. ....
"I'm eager to get back here in a Cup car. In 2001, I had a four-second lead with 15 laps to go when a caution came out and I barely lost that one. I can't wait to get back in Cup competition here and prove that I can win. I'm also excited to be the first person to drive a Cup car for Kimberly-Clark. They've been such a great sponsor in the Busch Series for so long. We appreciate their support ....
"For probably the last couple weeks as the races have run down I have been thinking about this race and some of the memories we had here. It's hard to believe that 12 years at Robert Yates Racing is coming to an end. Robert and the Yates family have treated me like family and it will be very difficult when I climb out of that ....
Today we have a very special teleconference lineup, and we're talking to the team owners whose drivers are in championship contention. That's Rick Hendrick, J.D. Gibbs, Richard Childress, and representing Theresa Earnhardt, Richie Gilmore. We're going to be moving along here today having each of these gentleman on for approximately 15 minutes. ....
A former two-time winner of the event, Gordon will once again attempt to reclaim one of racing's most coveted titles. Driving his No. 83 Red Bull/Toyo Tires-sponsored Chevy CK1500 Trophy Truck, Gordon will make the trek through the Baja peninsula for the majority of the race before turning over the helm to 19-year old phenom, Andy McMillin. ....
"We are really excited Mike will be behind the wheel of the No. 5 truck for three more years," commented Team Owner Bill Davis. "Mike and the No. 5 team have really done a great job and are a threat to win week in and week out. Skinner has been an important member of the NASCAR community for many years, and we are looking forward to three more great years. Toyota has proven ....
Last year at Homestead-Miami Speedway (Nov. 11, 2005), Todd Bodine picked up the victory in the No. 30 Germain Racing Tundra. Three other Tundra drivers recorded top-five finishes at last year's season-finale -- Jack Sprague was second, Johnny Benson was third and Bill Lester was fifth. In addition, Tundra racer David .....
In his five career Cup starts there, he has posted one win, two top-five finishes and two poles. He scored his first "double-dip" race weekend by taking both the pole position and the race win in the 2002 season finale at Homestead. In one of the most dramatic races in NASCAR history, Busch started from the pole ....
"I really like the Homestead track. Last year, we were flying through the field until I got caught up in someone else's mess. I am not sure why I run so well there, but I guess it is because I never ran the old configuration. The only track I know is the current one. I really like tracks that give driver's different lines and give them ....
"That team itself has a very good grasp of the situation. They know that they can't beat themselves and that it's out of their hands. If misfortune befalls the 48 and they lay it down that we want to be standing by to pick it up, but it's their's to lose. They've done a great job. They deserve to win a championship. We're not gonna be ....
"We are pleased beyond measure that we were able to get a driver the caliber of Travis Kvapil to be our veteran championship contender in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Roush Racing and Ford Motor Company," said team owner Jack Roush. "At only 30 years old with a truck championship and two years ....
"As far as our chances this weekend? I'm very excited about our chances. We couldn't have asked for a better test than what we had here a few weeks ago. I think we were fourth or fifth-fastest overall, and the car felt great in qualifying and race trim. Harold (Holly) has tweaked a few things from the test, so hopefully we'll be ....
"We're excited just to be a part of it, to tell you the truth," says Harvick. "We've had a great year. Wand we have had our ups and downs, but for the most part, it's been really good. So we're just having fun and racing as hard as we can and doing the things that we've done week in and week out all year. There's really not a lot of pressure, to tell you the truth. It's just go out ....
"We tested there and our car was good out of the box. It's going to be interesting because when we tested the longer runs, I went from running the bottom of the bottom to running the top of the top (of the track) and my car was awesome. You're going to see guys searching all over the place to find what they like, but I liked where I ran so I'm ready. I gained a lot of experience at the test ....
"I have always liked this track even before they made all the changes to the configuration. I am really more of a flat track guy although I like the high speed intermediate tracks like Atlanta and Texas. I liked this place before they added all the banking. You can definitely tell a difference in the speed you carry in the corners. We carry a lot more speed into the corners here now as opposed to when it was ....
Carmichael, a 15-time American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) national champion, was at the NASCAR races in Phoenix this past weekend to soak in all the atmosphere he could. He is close friends with Chevy driver Clint Bowyer, who is his NASACR role model, and hell lean heavily on incoming stock car legend Mark Martin to learn more tools of the trade. ....
"It's now a very oddly built race track. It has a really fast exit to the corners but one of the slowest entries to the corners on the circuit. You have to drive Homestead differently than any other track we go to. You have to go in there and be careful to not have to tight of a box with your set up. The mind set of a driver has to be open to try things. So you have to go be careful going to Homestead not to go ....
"I seriously don't have any clue what to expect. I don't have any strategy other than go down and finish ahead of (everyone.) It's just simple. That's all we've done so far through these last few months and just go down there and do the same thing we've been doing." .....
Sunday night could bring a championship celebration of a different kind for Gordon -this time as a championship car owner. Gordon co-owns the No. 48 car with Rick Hendrick and if Johnson captures the championship on Sunday, it will mark Gordon's first in that capacity and Hendrick Motorsports' sixth NASCAR NEXTEL Cup ....
"It's actually hard to believe that it's actually here," said Martin in reference to Sunday's race at Homestead. "It's one of those things where you know it has been coming for a while, but you still can't believe that it's almost here. I've been in that car for a long time - 19 years to be exact. It's a part of me and I'm a part of it. Now the time ....
"As far as our championship chances well they definitely aren't good. But, anything can happen. Really, all we can do is the best with what we have and see where we stand at the end of the day. We haven't run nearly as well as we did earlier in the year and it's definitely a bad time to be struggling the way we have recently. ....
We're traveling to Homestead this weekend still looking for bright spots in the season. We haven't cracked the top 10 yet this season, and that's definitely a goal of this team. As for next year, we've got great sponsors and drivers in place to make an impact in the series. I couldn't have asked for a better manufacturer in Toyota. ....
"ACDelco is the best sponsor I could have ever imagined having in the Busch Series," said Bowyer. "Their record speaks for itself. They have the most wins and the most championships than any other sponsor, and I'm proud to be a part of that history. Hopefully, we can add to it with a victory at Homestead." ....
"I've had a couple of third place finishes at Homestead in the past, and I sure would like to improve on that this weekend. To stay in the top five in points, we're going to have to have a solid run. There are too many other competitors that are nipping at our heels right now. I can't think of a better way to protect our spot than to go out with a win." ....
Newman has had good and bad finishes at Homestead. In four races, he has two top-10 finishes and two from the 30th position or lower. His finishes of 37th and 30th came after accidents. Newman's average finish at Homestead is 20. "It's been a tough year for this team and I think we're all ready to see it come to an end and start working on 2007. This is our final chance to earn a win and we'll all go ....
"We want to finish the year with a bang for our sponsor Kimberly-Clark. We've done some cool things with them this year - with special paint schemes and other track activities that involve all of their brands. We know we really need to have a strong run here in Homestead and get our Ornaments on Parade' Ford Fusion in victory lane. ....
"Homestead is one of those race tracks where I have had a lot of success, but somehow a win has just escaped me time and time again. I have several runner-up finishes and even a couple of third-place finishes, and now, I want that win. Homestead is a great track for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. It is fast and wide .....
Kenny Wallace has seven NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) averaging a 18th place starting position and a 20th place finishing position. "I'm really excited about racing under the lights at Homestead. It's amazinghow much the facility has changed over the years with the resurfacing ....
For the final race of the season, the JR Motorsports team will run Chassis No. JRM 022. The chassis was last raced by Huffman at Lowe's Motor Speedway in October. It was previously raced by Robby Gordon at Fontana and Michigan where he scored ninth and third-place finishes respectively. ....
"We missed the majority of final practice on Saturday because of the engine change and that really put us behind with the final adjustments to the car. We were pretty consistent in the morning session, but the (weather) conditions were a lot different than in final practice, which was pretty similar to what saw during the race. ....
"It's actually hard to believe that were headed to the last race of the season. I always have mixed feelings this time of year. On the one hand, I'm one of the guys who would race all year round if I could, but at the same time, I think I could use a little break from it all right now. The good news is that everyone at Bill Davis Racing and ....
"It's been our worst track over the years, but that'll change this weekend. We've made really big gains on our mile-and-a-half, two-mile program in the last year, so we know we can run in the top-10 at Homestead. We had a pretty good test there a few weeks ago. (Teammate) Martin (Truex Jr.) was really fast at the test, so I think ....
"I wish we could have had a better result for our No. 27 KLEENEX®/VIVA® Ornaments on Parade Ford. But the good thing is we have one more week to put this special paint scheme in victory lane. I've run well at Homestead-Miami Speedway - even sat on the pole there in 1998 - and I am looking forward to getting back there with the Brewco crew on Saturday." ....
"The Navy team had an awesome run today," Huffman said. "We had a great car and were able to run up front for most of the day and show the rest of those guys just what this Navy team has for them. The finish is good for this team, but it's also great to give the Navy a good run on Veterans Day. The sailors and all of the service men and women around the world do so much for our country, it's an ....
"We struggled today and I take the responsibility for that," sounded Petty. "But I saw a lot of character in this team today. No one quit and, as a result, we were able to walk away from Phoenix with a top-25 finish. The 14 had some trouble and that helped us in the owner points battle. With that extra cushion we can now concentrate on going to Homestead and kicking some butt." ....
"I hated to lose that spot there so late, but I just couldn't hold Matt (Crafton) off any longer," Starr said. "We had an awesome run today, and a lot of that is thanks to this Red Horse Racing pit crew. They did an amazing job on pit road helping me to pick up spots and getting me out in front of a lot of trucks." ....
Confident in the changes and restarting 19th, Wallace would move up three positions in just 10 laps. Running in the 16th position with six laps remaining, the AutoZone team became a victim of circumstance and was involved in a multi-car accident. Unable to restart the No. 22 due to damage, Wallace and the AutoZone team would have to settle for a 31st place finish in the "valley of the sun." ....
"I'm proud of what this team was able to accomplish today," Sprague said. "Our truck wasn't good. I really battled some handling issues on the race track, and the guys stuck with it to make the changes I needed on pit road, which helped to make it driveable. Seventh place isn't bad, and we were able to pick up .....
A late-race caution on lap 195 of 200 for a two-car wreck sent the race into overtime. This gave Harvick one more chance to pass Kenseth on the restart. The race restarted on Lap 202 and Kenseth got a quick jump on Harvick and the 26-time NASCAR Busch Series winner was unable to make a charge for lead. ....
"Everyone is asking what our strategy for Homestead will be when the race starts. Well, it's pretty simple. We've relied on a solid race car and I just did my job. The car has been so strong that we haven't had to trick anybody nor do anything fancy. That's what we are going to do this weekend in Florida." ....
Blaney was unable to avoid making contact with another car during the melee, and he drove down pit road so the Caterpillar team could assess the damage to the left front of the machine. Blaney made several stops during the ensuing caution period so the team could repair the damage and reset the toe, which had been ....
"We would have been lucky to have a top-25 finish if we would have run like we did at the start of the race, but my guys really worked hard and did a good job of improving the car throughout the race. But, we really struggled worse in those final 50 laps because of all of those late yellow flags. Our car would get tighter and tighter after ....
GM Goodwrench driver Kevin Harvick powered to victory in the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway to complete the #29 Goodwrench Expertise Challenge and award 29 lucky Expertise Challenge grand prize winners with an all-new 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. ....
Kevin Harvick led a dominating 252 laps enroute to his second victory of the season at Phoenix International Raceway. "Our race car was really good and obviously it would take off really good for the first fifty or sixty laps then we would kind of fall off a little bit," Harvick explained. "But as we got into the day and got better and better, loosening the car up you know, the car would last longer and longer. Point leader Jimmie Johnson finished second and now holds a 63 point advantage over Kenseth. Denny Hamlin finished third followed Jeff Gordon, and Cars Edwards. ....
Tony Stewart led a dominating (278 of 339) laps on his way to victory in the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. "You know all these guys behind us won this race today, Stewart said of his pit crew. "They kept me out in the lead every pit stop. The first time we came in we were second and we never lost a spot after that. So it's all due to these guys behind me on this pit crew. Jimmie Johnson finished second and now leads the championship standings by (17) over Matt Kenseth. Harvick finiished the race third followed by Kyle Busch and Clint Bowyer. ....

It transfers its power to all four wheels via a Hydra-Matic four-speed electronically controlled transmission. The front and rear axles are equipped with 3.73 gears and Eaton ELocker electronic ....
"We are really excited about Tyler joining our team," commented Team Owner and BDR President Bill Davis. "He has really shown me that he has talent, and I think the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is a perfect place for him to showcase his abilities. With the help of Toyota, we have really built a dominant program here, and I think Tyler will be the perfect addition to our team." ....
Tony Stewart led the most laps on his way to his fourth victory of the year in the Bass Pro Shops 500 event this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. "We did what we wanted to do. We got up front early and stayed up front all day. So you know, just to be here in Home Depot's back yard and be able to win, that's special for us." Jimmie Johnson finished second and continues to close in on the points lead now only 26 markers back. Dale Earnhardt Jr led some laps but ended up third followed by point leader Matt Kenseth in the fourth and Biffle fifth. ....

Jimmie Johnson held off a late race charge from rookie Denny Hamlin to win the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway Sunday afternoon. A good pit call gave Bobby Labonte track position and he held on to finish third followed by Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon. "These guys on this 48 team work their butt's off every time we're here to give me what I'm looking for and this car's been on rails. I'm just happy to finish where we should have. We've been running up front these last three or four ....
