A Review of Gus Hansen’s Every Hand Revealed

I vividly remember the first time I saw Gus Hansen play poker. It was the final table of a World Poker Tour tournament televised on the Travel Channel, and I sat in wonder at this apparent maniac raising under the gun with hands like J-4 offsuit. Hansen’s play challenged everything I thought I knew about no limit hold’em, and, judging by his success, equally confused many of the best players in the world as well. Now, Hansen has undertaken a book project as unique as his style of play. Every Hand Revealed tracks each and every hand that Hansen played in last year’s Aussie Millions tournament, a tournament which he won. read more in pokerworks.com

Graham Grabs Event 53 Gold

It was the last of the 2008 World Series of Poker events prior to the main event. The $1,500 Limit Hold’em Shootout was the final one on the schedule of tournaments leading up to the one everyone has been waiting for, and it was the last chance for a player to win a bracelet without having to maneuver through a field of 6,000 to 8,000 players. read more in pokerworks.com

The Ultimate Poker Tournament Begins – Day 1A Of The Main Event

I got here a little early, mainly to make sure I beat the mad rush that will get here in about an hour and to make sure I got a seat on media row. There is NO event like the Main Event in poker. People can talk all they want about the WPT Championship or the 50K H.O.R.S.E. event but this is the one that everybody dreams of... it's the impossible dream... the ultimate poker tournament. It's the one tournament where amateurs and professionals unite in force, at a whopping price of $10,000, to test their skills against one another. I know it is the one tournament that I personally dream of just playing in, and for many doing just that... playing in the Main Event... is enough. read more in pokerworks.com

Ante Up! Hosts Raise The Stakes Of Award-Winning Podcast

When Chris Cosenza approached Scott Long about doing a poker podcast for the St. Petersburg Times three years ago, it had about as much of a chance of lasting this long as pocket Aces holding up at a $2-$4 Limit table with eight drunk calling stations. read more in pokerworks.com

Smyth Smokes the Competition in Event #50

The $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship was destined to be a hit with the players, as PLO is seemingly more and more like the new hold’em. The game is suddenly appearing in card rooms and casinos around the world, and players are flocking to it. A total of 381 players did just that on Sunday, June 29 to see who could claim the title of PLO world champion at the 2008 WSOP. read more in pokerworks.com

Event #52 - $1,500 NLHE Final Table

Even with the action at the Rio winding down as the Main Event gets ready to start, there was still an event to be settled with a large amount of money at stake. The last $1,500 NLHE tournament of the 2008 WSOP started with 2,693 participants and the winner would take home an amazing sum of $625,443. The final table seating assignments and chip counts were as follows: read more in pokerworks.com

The 2008 World Series Of Poker Official Cluster**** - Day 34 Of The WSOP

Last year, I missed the Ante Up For Africa event because it was one of the few days off I had. This year, I wanted to see it and made it a priority to come to. Wow, I had no idea what I was in for. Now I know why celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears go a little crazy with all the paparazzi chasing them around. It was/is a madhouse here. Throw in a Ben Affleck, Adam Sandler, and Matt Damon and all of a sudden 200 members of the media show up. Whatever you do, don't get in their way either, because they will run your ass over to get a shot of the celebrity they are after. read more in pokerworks.com

The Round Table - Mark Seif at the 2008 Series

Mark Seif knows a thing…or 2 about poker at the World Series. In 2005 he won back-to-back bracelets, besting thousands of players to pick up the wins. He has cashed for 2 million dollars in worldwide tournaments and is at the 2008 WSOP looking for another big win. read more in pokerworks.com

Charity Is Fun – The Budding Ivey Charity Tournament

I had the opportunity to go to a BBQ hosted by Howard and Suzie Lederer and Steve Z. at the Golden Nugget pool that was followed by a charity tournament for the Budding Ivey Foundation, a charitable organization started by Phil Ivey to help kids in the Las Vegas area. I'd been to poker parties before, but this was a different kind of party and it allowed me to see many different sides that I had not seen in some of the professional poker players before. Different sides that I liked... it let me in to their world a little more and showed me the “human” side of these card sharks. read more in pokerworks.com

WSOP Day 33 Tournament Recaps

The last event before the Main Event got underway today and by the end of the day there would only be two events left running... the $1,500 NLHE that was playing down to it's final table and the $1,500 Limit Hold Em Shootout event which was also going down to the final nine but came up way short of reaching that goal. Here are recaps of those two events. read more in pokerworks.com

Event #51 - $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. Final Table

It took a little extra time to reach the final eight of the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event and the final table did not get started until nearly 8:30 in the evening. This is the problem you have sometimes when you play a limit event with over 800 participants in it. The final eight wasn't what you would call a star studded finale but any time you have Phil Hellmuth as one of the members, things get very interesting. The final eight were as follows: read more in pokerworks.com
