One of the perks to pre-ordering the new Banjo game for the Xbox360, was that it included a code to download the original Banjo game from XBLA for free. Well, the codes were just not working, so MS has delayed the release of the title until December 3. Hopefully MS has fixed the issue by then.
Warner Brothers has announced a new game based on the upcoming Terminator movie, Salvation. The movie will be the fourth in the series, and the game puts players in control of John Connor, the head of the resistance fighters. The film opens nationwide on May 22, 2009.
The new Prince of Persia game is coming along nicely, and now, it looks like fans of Assassin's Creed will get to play their favorite building-jumper in the title. Altair, the main character from the other Ubisoft game, will be just one of the skins players can choose to play the game through with. They can also choose the classic Prince skin from the original Sands of Time. Great news.
Over 12000 titles are available for Instant Viewing via Netflix's newest partner - Microsoft and it's Xbox360. But today, after the launch of the New Xbox Experience, Sony has removed some of its content from Netflix. In a statement released by Sony, they retorted with, "This issue is not specific to Xbox or any other individual platform. Sony Pictures is currently in discussions with the relevant parties to resolve certain licensing matters related to the distribution of its motion pictures..."
News out of Rockstar's camp; Grand Theft Auto IV's Xbox 360 exclusive content will be named 'Lost and Damned'. Debuting on the Xbox360 on February 17th, will feature a plot line that will focus on a new character within Liberty City. USA Today quotes Dan Houser, vice president of creative development for Rockstar Games, saying, "I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City."
Koei and Tecmo have finalized their merger, in a stock deal with value of $20 Billion Yen, or about $207 million USD. Tecmo, as you know, is being sued by Tomonobu Itagaki and some members of his team. They claim they were promised bonuses and financial compensations that were never honored. When this happened, Tecmo all but fell apart. At that point Square showed interest in the company, but in the end, Koei won the takeover war. Tecmo claims that games like DOA and Ninja Gaiden are still in their hands, so we will stay tuned to see if we can expect DOA5 and more.
Nintendo of America's Cammie Dunaway claims that hardcore gamers will start to sit up and take notice of the Wii next year, finally. She claims there will be multiple titles that will increase the Wii's already widespread demographic penetration. She specifically mentions a game called The Conduit, which is apparently pushing the graphical capabilities of the console, and does things not though possible on the tiny box. We will find out this Spring. She added: "I think that next year you're going to see the tide turn a little bit, in terms of people realising that the Wii can have something of interest for everybody."
Sony is apparently having issues with Little Big Planet again. Not the game's technology this time, or the PSN servers, but for plagiarism. There was a Sackboy costume design contest recently, and now users are claiming that Sony is copying designs from non-winning entries for PSN LBP download content. You can check the similarities at the link. Posters on the official forums have pointed out more than one uncanny similarity between the design postings and Sackboy official costumes. Of course, Sony community officials are claiming it is just a coincidence. We are sure the Sony art people did look at the entries though, and who can say if it affected them subconsciously?"this was always going to be a possibility when we ran the costumer competition - releasing new costumes which are similar in theme to ones that were entered," said the Sony rep.
Last week, Midway announced cuts at the Chicago studio, following a financial third quarter loss. The layoffs came after the completion of Blitz: The League II and Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. Midway claims trimming staff after big projects is s.o.p. (standard operating procedure), though. Ed Boon spoke with Gamedaily today and stated that the layoffs and Midway's troubles are being overstated, and his team is in very good shape after the purge."The statement that Midway let go a substantial portion of the people who worked on this game is completely false. I think I would know," asserted Boon. "Our team is intact and we're already discussing the next game and what we want to do. Mortal Kombat is on pretty solid footing. Right now we're looking at how this game performs and I think it will have a good amount to do with what features we put in the next game."
zcryptic Studios is advertising for a PS3 programmer, which suggests it is looking to port its in-development MMO games to the Sony console. Great news for all MMO fans waiting for console support."We have developed a flexible, cutting edge MMO platform to power games like Champions and Star Trek Online," it reads. "It runs on PC and Xbox 360 - now we want to support PS3 too."

Rumors began to surface after the game rating body in Australia, the OFLC, posted a listing for Outrun Online Arcade. This is a collaboration between THQ and Sega, according to the site. No more details were provided, as you can see, but this would be similar to Test Drive Online, we assume.

It is a nice bonus just for applying. Also, there are 20 new Community games added to the NXE download area. These games are like Arcade games, but they are under a different heading.

SCEA stated this morning that there are 14 million active PSN accounts, globally. The 14 million users have downloaded over 273 million different bits of content, as well. In July, Sony said that there were 9.8 million registered users, this is a big jump for less than a year."With 14 million active accounts and 273 million pieces of content downloaded, we know that you're thirsting for this digital entertainment," said John Koller, director of hardware marketing for SCEA, on the company blog.

The downloadable content for the upcoming RTS Halo Wars is complete, apparently. The content was apparently designed into the game's framework from the beginning, so it has been worked on side-by-side with the main title. The DLC will be held back a bit, though, to help sustain interest in the game. Sounds reasonable, not too long now, Bungie."It was never the plan to finish the game THEN start work on the DLC," he went on to say, adding that the DLC was pretty much done already.
Gamasutra has compiled a list of the top selling games of 2008 (some estimated till the end of the year), and it looks like the Wii is seriously pulling ahead. Besides Grand Theft Auto IV, at the number 3 slot, the rest of the chart is all Wii games. Super Smash Brothers takes the top honors, followed by Mario Kart, Wii Play, and Wii Fit. How anyone can say the Wii is not doing well, is beyond us.
Take Two head Strauss Zelnick spoke about the future of subscription pricing, and he is not talking about applying it to MMO games. Zelnick maintains that the only way to make good money on console subscription is to apply it to AAA titles, a.k.a. games like GTA IV and Bioshock. The company is still working on the free GTA DLC, as promised, but in future, Zelnick plans to charge for these games somehow. Stay tuned on this one.
Ensemble Studios, recently shut down by MS, revealed that the Halo MMO they had staffed up to 40 people for, was green lit for production, and then suddenly canceled. The game was set before the original Halo, apparently when the Covenant was not quite the Covenant yet. Ensemble was heartbroken, but then again, MS has a pretty bad track record for MMO games. Tru Fantasy Live Online was one of the most anticipated MMO games out there, and then, suddenly canceled. To this day, gamers still want it resurrected. Once again, MS tried with Marvel Universe Online by Cryptic. Once again, canceled. The Halo MMO makes for a cancellation trifecta. We wonder where all these promised console MMO games are?"We worked on it for a long time - we had staffed up an almost 40-person team," Pottinger said. "And then there was some reorganization at Microsoft, and the new bosses thought it wasn't the best idea any more."
The Sims, as you may or may not know, is now the number one selling PC franchise of all time. Well, with the third installment of the game ont he horizon, CVG sat down with some of the developers over at EA to get the lowdown on The Sims 3. There will be no transfer of items or people form the previous game, as there are so many new innovations that it would not be possible -- sorry folks.
Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo America President, said Nintendo will focus their efforts on user-generated content, as he believes, as does Nintendo in general, that it is the future of interactive entertainment. Speaking at the BMO conference, Reggie said it was the end of "passive entertainment," and explained how the Wii has somewhat begun to reflect this attitude.
Square-Enix is building a brand new development studio in Los Angeles, it seems. According to the "career" section on the Square website, the company is advertising sever positions for the new studio, including 360 software engineer, project manager, 3D artist, and more. We suppose this means a new console game is in the works. Square likely already has the know-how for programming on the PS3.
According to GI, Everton Football Club in the English Premiere League, has signed a deal with Sports Interactive to use the Football Manager game as a recruiting tool. The game's database contains over 370k players and staff, and the club's manager, David Moyes, is going to use the info to search through the 20k teams in over 50 countries to form the largest scouting database out there. We wonder why no one has thought of this before.
The rumors that surfaced about a month ago regarding a possible Guitar Hero arcade cabinet are looking a bit less "rumory" now. The cabinet is being published by, believe it or not, Konami, and in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday, at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions exhibit, it will be officially revealed. Supposedly. Rumor mill for now, more info when we have it.
Although Webzen's Sci-Fi FPS MMO was announced in 2005, we still have very little info on the game itself. Now, BD has apparently learned that the game will not see a US 2008 launch. An XBox360 version is planned as well, sometime after the PC release. Why the game is taking so long we are not sure.
Rare's Studio Manager, Mark Betteriedge, spoke with GI, and stated that the company's future games will "surprise" people. The game are of different styles, no more shooters, or games that label the 360 as a "hardcore" box. No actual details on the games were given, of course, but stay tuned. Killer Instinct anyone?
