Guess as a New Trading Partner - SPS Testing

Hi All,

Looking for input from anyone who has set up Guess as a new Trading
Partner through the SPS Testing website.

We use the iSeries(AS400) and Inovis as a translator - so the
experiences of anyone with a similar background would be even more
appreciated

Thank you,

Code Lists - GIS 4.0

Hi all -

I was just wondering - Does anyone have a method for mass-importing a
code list into GIS 4.0? I have a situation where I need to use a master
code list (about 300 lines) and would prefer not to have to manually
type them all in. I can produce the list in a number of formats, so
that shouldn't be an issue. One thought I had was doing it directly
through an SQL query, but there are multiple tables and I don't want to
blow anything up (if I can help it!)

All thoughts and guidance would be most appreciated.

This will be an open, interactive session and a great opportunity to
learn something new while networking with your fellow EDI/EC

Business Process Outsourcing: From Business Tactic to Business
Strategy

We will discuss the things that you need to consider to see if BPO
is right for your company and help you understand it better.

Do you have stacks of IT projects on your plate? Struggling to split
your time between and Core and Critical projects? Are you having
difficulty finding the qualified resources to attack new business
initiatives while maintaining everyday activities? Have you ever
asked yourself, “If only I could give this everyday stuff to someone
else, I could really make a difference in my company?”

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then you need to
learn how other companies are tackling these problems … through
Business Process Outsourcing.

This session will help you understand the trends in Business Process
Outsourcing (BPO) from a B2B perspective. You will learn how big the
market is, how it is growing, where the work is being done (it’s not
where you think!), what work is being outsourced and much more.
Lastly, we will discuss some of the new technologies that are
enabling BPO and why they are important to your business.

COST: $25.00 Payments accepted via cash or check at the meeting.

E3 is the cell with the complete number (with check digit).
(You should change that to A3)

The formula goes in C3 to the right.
I also added: =IF(VALUE(RIGHT(A3))=C3,"OK","error") which compares the last
digit in A3 to the calculated check-digit... If the chkdigit is correct,
you
see 'OK'

I can't attach worksheets here...

=MOD(10-MOD(SUMPRODUCT(--(MID(E3,{1,3,5,7,9,11},1)))*3+SUMPRODUCT(--
(MID(E3,{2,4,6,8,10},1))),10),10)

is the formula for the UPC checkdigit (12 digits)

Just add digits 12 & 13 (to the even/odd sections)

=MOD(10-MOD(SUMPRODUCT(--(MID(E3,{1,3,5,7,9,11,13},1)))*3+SUMPRODUCT(--
(MID(E3,{2,4,6,8,10,12},1))),10),10)

There are probably some on-line tools that you can use to check the
calculation...

Add 2 zeroes to the front and let the check digit recalculate.

If you need to calculate the check digit by hand google "mod-10 calculate".

Greetings,

Another solution that has been proven is Complylink from ESupply. Their
website is:

www.e-supplylink.com

They have UCC-128 labels for most of the big guys, and hook in to
several
EDI translators.

Good luck.

Greetings,

Another solution that has been proven is Complylink from ESupply. Their
website is:

www.e-supplylink.com

They have UCC-128 labels for most of the big guys, and hook in to
several
EDI translators.

Good luck.

No comment on GP, since we don't use it.
We have a client where we send a file to GP with PO data and get a file for
Invoices. GP can easily import and export data, so you shouldn't feel 'locked
in' to any solution...

I don't think that GP comes with any EDI built in. The people selling it will
probably recommend something that they are familiar with. I'm sure that
Microsoft can also sell you a BizTalk connector...

Re: Great Plains 8 - EDI Implementations

Greetings,

I have had clients that have used Ebridge. They provide an out of the box
solution. Their website is:

www.ebridge.com

You will still need some help understanding how to properly use EDI, but the
technical side is done.

RE: Great Plains 8 - EDI Implementations

Nathan is being very modest. The translator supplied by his company, Softshare,
has the capability to do what he recommends, and to do it very well. You will
also find it a cost-effective solution backed up by excellent customer support.

RE: Great Plains 8 - EDI Implementations

Bridget,

VSync is not the only translator that will work. Actually, I think VSync
is a reseller with another software vendor's translator under the hood.
Since Great Plains is a Microsoft product, you will also see information
about MS BizTalk as an option for translators. Most of the good
translators regularly featured on this List should work for you if you
use the Integration Manager utility.

Great Plains offers the Integration Manager utility to manually
import/export translated data files. Since this utility can get
cumbersome with high volumes of transactions, we recommend to our
clients that if they exceed 200 transactions per week, they should
read/write directly to the SQL database instead (the translator you
choose should be able to provide at least EDI, database, and data file
conversions).

Hope this is helpful,

Great Plains 8 - EDI Implementations

I have a client who is considering moving to Great Plains 8. Can anyone offer
any feedback on it's abilities? Likes and dislikes of the software? So far,
It's my understanding that Great Plains uses V-Sink for EDI translation in
conjunction with Gentran for communications only. Will Great Plains integrate
whith any other EDI Translator or is it set up to only be compatible with the
above as mentioned? Any information anyone can offer us on these products and

RE: <tech> Integrated ASN Solution

We are currently evaluating software to fill the ASN+ void. We also use
Gentran Server as our translator, and are looking for a package that will
only use ONE map for Gentran, and we'll pick and choose what data to send
depending on partner maps. Right now EDIsoft Visual ASN looks pretty good,
but I still have to go through the demo before we make any decisions.

RE: <JOBS>Interoperability Testing Position, Ft. Worth, Texas

I'm still waiting for a reply from Bath. I could be wrong about the Drummond
certification pricing, and if I am, I would like to have the correct
information.

---------------------------------
Beth

How much is enrollment for a new product?
How much does it cost per year after that?

You wrote "The facts are that Drummond Certified AS2 testing costs $10,000
per test". Per test means what, exactly? How many tests are required to
be certified?

The price to certify a new product was well over $50,000 US. True or
false?

Are you saying that I can put together software based on OpenAS2 and have
it certified for $10,000 ?

RE: Handling unstructured text associated with an 810

Steve

Howards reply reminds me of the current situation with Sears Canada. Their
850/POs are accompanied by an 864/Text document which is used to print some
special shipping labels. This is done for their big ticket, direct to customer
items, where a special 6" x 6" label has to be printed with the customer name,
address, etc....

I've seen 850/POs with many MTX text lines, but I don't remember seeing those
segments on the 810/Inv.

In addition, the 810 is designed to be loaded into their AP system, so that you
can get paid. Most systems are going to ignore all the PID stuff that you send
anyways.

I would recommend sending an 864 in parallel with each 810.

Re: Handling unstructured text associated with an 810

Hi Steve,

I hope this doesn't get me shot by the group, but
perhaps you may want to entertain the idea of
implementing the 811 Consolidated Invoice. Originally
used by the phone companies, I used it in the
autoglass industry to send invoices to the insurance
companies. It is a complex document--I think that
only the 835 Healthcare Claim is more complex. The
last time I worked with it, probably about eight years
ago, it used seven levels of HL looping structure.
The tracking of the present location in the hierarchy
broke the GUI mapper's back. I had to use the
programming language associated with the translator in
order to get a map that would work.

One side benefit of taking this direction is it may
scare some of your trading partners into rethinking
the importance of all of that "important data". You
can provide them with enough information that they
will think that they are trying to take a little slurp
from a raging fire hose. They'll have a blast trying
to build the map for this one.

Good Luck,
Butch M.

RE: <JOBS>Interoperability Testing Position, Ft. Worth, Texas

That was just too darn funny for a Wednesday night, Sharon.
I skimmed right over it.

It wasn't till I heard about the verdicts in the Enron Exec trials that
something clicked.
:
Had to go to the Drummond site and look up Rik's bio, again.

"In addition, Drummond currently serves as chairman of 13 on the
GridWise Architecture Council. GridWise is a U.S. Department of Energy
(DOE) task group focused on defining the next generation of information
systems for the national electrical generation and distribution power
grids. "

Witness: the FLSA Compliance PID segment everyone who gets 810 invoices wants.

(Like anyone really checks it!).

RE: Handling unstructured text associated with an 810

EDI does not deal well with unstructured text. The standard method for
reducing the volume is to assign codes as shorthand for the various
options. I would look at the code lists currently in the standards and
see if this problem has not already been addressed by one of your
competitors.

Why does the invoice need to carry this detail? I can understand the
need for a detailed PO describing what is desired, but the invoice need
only refer back to the line number of the PO.

Handling unstructured text associated with an 810

We have a number of vendors that have traditionally included a lot of
unstructured text on their paper invoices, and this has presented
problems in moving these vendors to 810s. Using the IT1/PID loop, we
have developed the capability to process a modest amount of text
associated with each detail line, but we have not gone far enough to
address the considerable volume of text needed when the invoice is for
custom items, i.e., items that involve custom embroidery, decals,
colors, reconditioning services, etc. In addition, some of the text
needs to be associated with the entire 810, not just with a specific
line.

It appears that we could take the brute-force approach and simply use a
lot of occurrences of (1) the IT1/PID loop to handle the line-related
text and (2) the ISS summary loop (which includes a PID segment) to
handle the text associated with the entire invoice. (We would also have
to make considerable mods to our line-of-business system as well, which
was not designed to accommodate a novel within each 810.) I'm hoping
there is a better way. It just doesn't seem to me that the 810 was ever
intended to do this sort of thing, and yet I understand the business
needs of these vendors. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

BizManager - Flagging a record once read from Database

Can anyone help me with how to flag a record once it is read from the
database on an outbound read. This is a BizManager implementation,
direct from database (Oracle) to BizManager (database to X12 EDI). We
know we can do it from within the database on a timer basis, but we're
hoping for a more real time way to do it within Biz just as soon as the
record is read (to avoid the obvious duplication issue).
Thanks,
John

Re: [edi_gns] Gentran NT Server 5.0 mailbox question

Thanks for everybody's help! It was a combination of suggestions that
helped me solve the dilemma. Because I am trying to use the files from
SAP as SAP creates them through the IDOC processing, the file names are
limited. I could ask a script to be created to rename, but my goal is to
do this without scripts. So, I added the *.* entry to my System Import
configuration. Then, I used the Application/Import content type on my
collection mailbox to correspond to the Mailbox configuration that would
use GDW_MBImport.

This will be a great enhancement to my system. The passing from mailbox
to mailbox is eating up alot of space on my server for no good reason.

Thanks again to everyone who responded.

Cindy

Cindy,
if I understand correctly, all you ultimately want
to do is import this file into Gentran so it can be
sent, is that correct? So, you are using a GDW_Import
on the filename that is extracted from the mailbox,
correct?

If so, then you should take a look at using the
Application/Import content type. That will allow you
to run an import on data that is received from the
mailbox.

I don't have the document in front of me, but I'm
pretty sure someone in Gentran support has something
that gives you a step-by-step setup of configuring the
mailbox to allow data to import.
