JANUARY 24 - BELLY LAUGH DAY

A wonderful day to celebrate laughter, joy, happiness... Stop for a moment and think that laughing is a precious gift meant to make our days beautiful, to relax and give us a reason for survival. Laughter can save not only our lives, but also our souls. When we feel bad, a smile can make us feel better, when we are tired, a smile relax us, when we lack imagination a smile can make us creative. A laugh can put away any tear and any stress.

It's in our nature...

Laughter Facts on Belly Laugh Day:

  • Celtic Symbol Designs: Immortality - the harp representing the soul has three melodies: laughter, slumber, and a sigh.

  • The Symbols Of Pythagoras : Be not addicted to immoderate laughter.

"... this Symbol mentions laughter above all the passions, because this alone is most conspicuous, being, as it were, a certain efflorescence and inflammation of the disposition proceeding as far as to the face... laughter is the peculiarity of man with respect to other animals; and hence he is defined to be a risible animal. It is shown, therefore, by this precept, that we should not firmly adhere to the human nature, but acquire by philosophizing am imitation of divinity to the utmost of our power; and withdrawing ourselves from this peculiarity of man, prefer the rational to the risible in the distinction and difference which we make of him with respect to other animals..." (from Sacred Texts).

  • Chinese Pinyin:
  • History Of Laughter: "Nobody knows when humans began to laugh, nor does anybody know when a concept of 'laughter' originated" (from Christianism.com) .

  • Belly Laugh Day Website: "Laughs and smiles are sunshine that transform our moments seven days of the week on the seven continents." (you can download and print the poster below from their website, just click the image)
"The most wasted day of all is that in which we have not laughed." Sebastian Roch Nicolas Chamfort.

Collect items such as green beans, rolls, sweet potatoes, cranberries, pumpkin, and so forth, along with cash donations that can be used to buy a gift certificate to a local grocery store for the perishable items.

HALLOWEEN PARTY IDEAS Part 9 - HALLOWEEN FUN

You have sent the invitations, decorated your house and thought about a menu for the Halloween dinner, and there are only a few days left. Now you have enough time to think about some funny games and contests for the magical night of Halloween.

You can organize a pumpkin carving contest. There are a few websites that offer free carving patterns, some scary, some funny, but all very original and perfect for your party. You can find some at SpookMaster Online.

More, you can play some Halloween games. DLTK's Holidays has some interesting ones like Mr. Skeleton Where's Your Bone or Mummy Wrap Game. Also the Halloween Magazine is offering great Halloween activities ideas, for children and also for adults, from masquerades to costumes parades and karaoke .

Halloween - it's all about fun!

HALLOWEEN PARTY IDEAS Part 8 - HALLOWEEN INSTANT COSTUMES

If you don't have to much time for your costume or just want to buy some simple costumes for your pary, you can choose some of these "instant Halloween costumes", nothing more than unique black t-shirts.

More Halloween Costumes...

HALLOWEEN PARTY IDEAS Part 7 - CHOOSE YOUR HALLOWEEN COSTUME

Now, it's time to choose your costume. This is the great moment. You must choose something you like, something that should make you get into the spirit of Halloween. You can buy the Halloween costume from a local or online store, or better, you can make it yourself.

There are lots of great online stores with interesting cotumes. You can be everything you want from a vampire or gothic vamp to Harry Potter or ballerina. You can be scary, ugly, cute, powerful anyway you like it on this special Halloween night, on your party. For your kids there is a bigger variety: ghost , indian princess, devil, alien, evil clowns costumes and much more.

Some of these online stores are:

But all these costumes lack originality. Therefore you choose something that represents you and try to make the costume yourself. To make it easier for you, there is http://www.robinsfyi.com/holidays/halloween/costumes.htm with great homemade Halloween costumes ideas.

HALLOWEEN PARTY IDEAS Part 6 - DECORATE YOUR HOME FOR HALLOWEEN

More than that, you can fill some vases with dried flowers, leaves, branches to feel the smell of autumn and the mystery of the dead nature, at the same time. It will also be like an extra effect to frighten your guests.

The outside can be decorated as a cemetery with some bought tombstones or gravestones - they have some for sale online at http://www.brandsonsale.com/halloween-tombstones.html, maybe a few bones here and there, and skeletons that can easily be made from PVC.

You can also use some Halloween sound effects, especially ghostly ones to impress your trick-or-treaters, and a fog machine so the atmosphere can be really scary.

HALLOWEEN PARTY IDEAS Part 5 - DECORATE YOUR HOME FOR HALLOWEEN

Once you have estabished a menu for the Halloween dinner, you must find the best theme for decorating your home, not only the inside, but also the outside. Is must be as scary and strange as it can be...

To decorate the inside, you can buy some Halloween pillows and clocks - for example there are clocks with 13 hours like this one from http://home.comcast.net/~pumpkin1000/props/13hourv1.htm , hang some glow in the dark bats, spiders or any other creepy creatures, create a misterious and eerie atmosphere for your guests.

Try to put some Jack O'Lanterns from place to place, and use the small pumpkins as candle holders. It would give a feeric effect to your house on this special night. Festive candle holders can also be made by combining candy corn and small terra-cotta pots... to be continued

To plan your menu , you can search on-line for some spooky recipes like “spaghetti and eyeballs” for a Ghoulish Themed Dinner, try to make some punches like the ones from http://allrecipes.com/advice/coll/all/articles/635P1.asp?adp=halloween for a Pumpkin Theme, or prepare really spooky dishes with recipes from http://www.britta.com/HW/HWr.html.

Something spicy...

Decayed Corpse Chips with Entrail Salsa

blue corn tortilla chips

salsa

This isn't so much a recipe as it is a creative display. Arrange the blue corn chips in a coffin in the shape of a long-dead corpse. The natural blue corn chips have almost a dusky shade of brown in them that hints of decayed skin. Serve with a nice blood-red chunky salsa as accompanying entrails.

HALLOWEEN PARTY IDEAS Part 2 -HALLOWEEN PARTY INVITATIONS

Everything begins with choosing the appropriate party invitations. To set the right mood for your Halloween party you must buy or print the most creative and spooky cards you can find.

These invitations must make everyone invited to feel the Halloween fever: haunted houses, bats, trick or treat, Jack O' Lanterns, black cats, witches or monster can be part of your Halloween invitations.

You can buy them or you can send hand-made ones with personalized frightening messages. Another alternative would be to print some free party invitations.

Whatever you choose, it's important to keep in mind your Halloween party theme and be sure to make your guests feel that's going to be the spookiest Halloween of their life... to be continued

And now lets go back to Halloween and make sure we have all ready for the spookiest Halloween party.

Halloween is the best time to frightfully celebrate all the strange things of this world with spooky decorations and amazing parties.

But what would be a Halloween party without some totally out of common ideas to frighten your guests? Just an usual boring party!!! That is why you have to think on how to decorate the house and prepare your costumes following the concept of macabre and mystery: some spooky invitations, bats and ghosts hanging all over the place, skulls and bones on the porch, a fog machine, tasty and scary recipes for the Halloween table, vampire costumes and much much more... to be continued

Bat Halloween Invitation

OCTOBER 1ST - WORLD VEGETARIAN DAY

Before starting with Halloween, let's not forget about one of the most important holidays of October, World Vegetarian Day.

This celebration is always held on October 1st, and it encourages people to eat vegetables and fruits, and forget for a day about meat. This holiday was first observed in1977 and brought together people from all over the world, spreading awareness to the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.

The vegetarian path was chosen either for the healty life it offers, or from the conviction that animals should not be killed.

Therefore, World Vegetarian Day promotes the principles of a healty life and environment, and moreover, joy and compassion for animals.

So as the t-shirt says: "Make a cow happy, Go Vegetarian"

A video sustaining their cause, "Meet Your Meat" is offered on a free Cd-Rom on request at http://www.salagram.net/V-meetURmeat.html

Therefore, this month is dedicated entirely to Halloween celebration as well as my future posts on this blog.
