Mapping VJ Festival

Like "patterns", the term "mapping" is being used in very simple, but also pretty philosophical ways. The fine German Medienkunstnetz web site has collected a great bundle of essays circling around "mapping" (in English and German) describing it in terms of the internet, storage, (net) art and cultural studies. VJ's are known to use "mapping software" to organize and prepare their creative storage during a peformance. Mixing commerce and art in a useful way, like the recent Motorola-sponsored VJ Festival, the upcoming Mapping Festival is organized by the software firm Garage Cube, and brings together high-class underground media artists, like Chiklet, Telematique, Pixelcorp, Solu, Ilan Katin, Legoman, Sigma6 and many others

Mallet-Stevens was associated with the "de Stijl" movement, but his buidings, all made in the span of only ten years, often go way beyond Calvinist austerity into Art Deco glamour and elegance.

And a second "Call for Art", for "The Free Will", a bunker art show in Berlin. The German/Russian curator/artist pair T. and N. Roemer invite international artists to apply to take part in another of their large bunker group shows. Their planned exhibition "The Free Will" will take place in the bunker under Berlin's "Arena" concert hall this summer, and will be opened by Mikhail Gorbachov...
